Enliven Disability, Rowan Apartments

We’re excited to bring you the latest update on the new accessible Rowan Apartments. The big changes on site each week are all thanks to our community’s support. You can really feel the momentum now!

The brick cladding and exterior plastering is complete. External doors and windows are in place and the painters have started. With the scaffolding coming down soon, we’ll be in the next exciting phase with fascia boards, gutters, and roof flashings about to go in.

Inside you can really see a transformation. Insulation is fitted, wall wraps are done, interior walls are up and being painted, and kitchen joinery is being crafted. Later this month the ceiling hoists, essential for the independence and mobility of future flatters, will be installed.

It’s inspiring to walk through the building and see it shifting from a construction site to a future home. Rowan Apartments is becoming a place of belonging, dignity, and choice. It’s a home that will meet the needs of younger adults living with complex physical disabilities in our community.

The project is in good hands with Project Manager, Nick Ward from Proactive Management (PML), and Julian Davis and the Davcon Construction team. Regular site meetings are keeping the project on track and the quality of work is high. Every trade on site from electrical and plumbing to fire safety and data is working hard to make sure Rowan Apartments is not only functional but thoughtfully designed for modern comfort and accessibility.

Thank you again to everyone who is with us on this journey. Together, we are making this local impact project a reality! We’ve come so far since we started the project late last year. The estimated cost to build Rowan Apartments is $3.8 million including construction and accessibility features. With members of our community having donated, a PSEC contribution, and a lower interest loan nearly secured, we’re almost there.

We’ve launched our ‘Make a House a Home’ fundraising campaign, inviting the community to help us furnish the apartments with everything from toasters to vacuum cleaners.
