Today, we celebrate International Day for Volunteers and acknowledge the dedication and hard work of our volunteers across our services, Enliven and Family Works, as well as at our charity shops in Havelock North and Taradale.
On Wednesday, the 4th of December, we marked the occasion with a special morning tea, hosted at No.5 Café & Larder. Debbie Bakkerus, Head of Marketing, warmly welcomed our volunteers and introduced our guest speaker Te Radar. His entertaining extracts from Te Radar’s Cookbookery show delighted the guests with some humorous stories about hidden treasures and quirky recipes discovered during his visits to various Op Shops throughout New Zealand.
Te Radar also shared inspiring words, reflecting on his growing connection with PSEC since hosting a staff event last year. As part of Enliven Disability and the Rowan Apartments Give a Brick campaign, he highlighted the urgent need for accessible housing for young adults with complex physical disabilities. Many of these younger people currently struggle with limited independence and accessibility, which this campaign aims to change. A powerful video presentation showed why this work matters and how it makes a real difference in our local community.
PSEC Board Member, Warren Hokke, expressed heartfelt gratitude to our volunteers, recognising their resilience and the incredible contributions they make giving up their time. The event concluded with a delicious morning tea, a fitting way to celebrate the positive difference our volunteers bring to our community every day.
To all our volunteers, thank you for your unwavering support and dedication to PSEC.
We are people helping people.
