Painted Denim for Charity brings creativity to the Charity Shop
On Friday 25 September 2026, the Charity Shop on Joll Road, Havelock North, hosted a fun afternoon mixing art, second-hand clothes and community fundraising.
Local artist Dali Susanto spent the afternoon painting three donated denim pieces, turning them into one-of-a-kind artworks as part of the Enliven Quiz “Painted Denim for Charity” project.
It was more than a creative afternoon. It was a way to give pre-loved denim a second life, keep good clothing out of landfill, and show how a little upcycling can go a long way for both the planet and the community. At the same time, it helped raise funds so Enliven can keep supporting local people to live well and stay connected.
Created right there in the shop, the pieces show how pre-loved clothing can be given a new life while reducing waste and raising funds for local services.
The three artworks will now go from donated items to auction items, with bidding taking place at The Big Community Quiz on Thursday 15 October 2026.
All funds raised will support Enliven’s work with local older people and people living with disabilities.
The idea behind the project is simple: Donate. Create. Give back.
It also captures what PSEC Charity Shops are all about. Every donation gives an item another life, helps reduce waste and raises funds that support local people.
