In March, individuals from the Thursday Enliven Community Day Programme did something a bit different. They got together for a high tea, a “community get together” at Mangapapa Hotel. They independently organised and saved for the event themselves and Enliven team were there to support if needed.
“This was something people were doing to get together outside of the service,” says LeeAnn, Enliven Programme Coordinator. The outing was not a formal service activity but an optional idea for those who chose to save up for on their own and arrange their own transport to get to, “we didn’t know if there would be five or twenty people that would join on the day.”

For those who wanted to join in on the fun, it was “something very grown up,” “something different,” and “something to save up for.” Most of all, it was “something to look forward to and experience together,” and a chance for “letting friendships grow naturally.” Individuals had saved up for the experience, but in the end, one of the kind attendees chose to cover the costs for the others.
At Enliven, we aim to provide a level of support that is just right. We step back so people do all they can or want to for themselves.
